John Lennon is the clearest example of a musician turning an alleged UFO experience into the mythology around a record. Why UFOs suit musicians so well

UFO material works unusually well in music because it can operate at several levels at once. It can be literal testimony, as with Lennon. It can be theatrical persona, as with Bowie. It can be mythic liberation, as with Sun Ra and Parliament-Funkadelic. It can be a publicity and advocacy platform, as with DeLonge. It can be political metaphor, as with Muse.
